They had made it to the playoff round of the Champions League qualifiers until losing 4-1 to Genk on penalties (after a 3-3 draw on aggregate). Haifa was then drawn into Group J of the Europa League where they faced FC Schalke 04, Steaua București, and AEK Larnaca. They were eliminated after finishing 3rd in the Group with 6 points from the 6 matches.
